About The Exercise The scenario begins with an outbreak of Akhmeta virus (AKMV) in the cattle of the fictional country Andoriban. Although the outbreak begins in the nation’s livestock, spillover into the human population results in a final count of 2.2 billion cases and 120 million deaths.
The exercise was designed for participants to:
- Discuss the requirements for a ‘Joint Assessment Mechanism’ for biological events of unknown origin
- Design measures to improve international coordination during pandemics
- Explore cybersecurity vulnerabilities that might impede responses to high consequence health emergencies
- Address gaps in biothreat intelligence throughout the international community
